Gas Spring Industry Sees Steady Growth Driven by New Energy Vehicles and High-end Standard Upgrades

2026 07/01

China’s gas spring industry maintains robust structural growth in 2026, with the overall market scale projected to reach RMB 23.24 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.2%. Booming demand from new energy vehicles, medical equipment, ergonomic furniture and industrial automation has become the core driving force for industrial expansion.
Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, new energy vehicles adopt more gas spring components. The average usage per vehicle has risen from 2–3 pieces to 4–6 pieces, widely applied in battery covers, electric control boxes and intelligent seats. The surging downstream demand greatly boosts the market uptake of customized self-locking and adjustable damping gas springs.
Updated industry standards have significantly raised market entry thresholds. Two new official specifications, QB/T 5822-2025 for furniture gas springs and YY/T 1892-2025 for medical pneumatic components, have been fully enforced in 2026. The new rules set stricter requirements on fatigue durability, salt spray corrosion resistance and extreme temperature adaptability, phasing out backward small-scale manufacturers and optimizing the industrial supply structure.
Supported by national industrial policies, high-precision gas springs are listed in the national key basic component support catalogue. Enterprises enjoy preferential policies including technological transformation subsidies and additional R&D expense deductions, which greatly accelerate the localization and import substitution process of high-end gas spring products.
In terms of market competition, domestic leading manufacturers continue to upgrade technologies, launching intelligent sensor-equipped gas springs and lightweight titanium alloy products for aerospace and intelligent manufacturing scenarios, breaking long-term overseas technical monopolies. Meanwhile, foreign brands including Germany’s Suspa and South Korea’s KGS keep expanding Asian production capacity, intensifying competition in high-end automotive and medical supporting markets.
The industry presents obvious polarization. Low-standard conventional gas springs face severe overcapacity and profit compression due to vicious price competition. In contrast, customized high-end products with self-locking, precise damping and intelligent monitoring functions are in short supply with huge market gaps.
Industry analysts predict that market resources will further concentrate on leading enterprises in the next three years. Low-carbon non-chrome surface treatment, recyclable raw materials and intelligent gas spring technology will become the mainstream development directions of the industry.
